Do You Suffer from a Trapped Mindset?

Do You Suffer from a Trapped Mindset?

October 17, 20242 min read

Do you ever catch yourself thinking, "I'm just not capable of learning new things," or "I'm either good at something, or I'm not"? 🤔

These thoughts are examples of a fixed mindset, a belief that your abilities are set in stone and can't be changed.

That’s a false narrative. So long as you’re alive you can learn, grow, and change. 💪🧠

All it takes is a small shift in your perspective to unlock your full potential.

Because the fixed mindset is based on a lie, it’s relatively easy to overcome. Yes, you must embrace a new way of thinking, a growth mindset if you will, and recalibrate your view of “challenges” or “problems.”

Reframe them as opportunities to grow and learn.

So long as you make a legitimate attempt, you will learn something about yourself – a great definition of growth.

Instead of shying away from something because it looks daunting, embrace it as an opportunity to expand your horizons and develop new skills.

Anything new is, by definition, unknown to you. You only become familiar with it by learning.

Languages are a great example. Imagine you’re learning a new language in anticipation of a future holiday with your family. At first it feels overwhelming. Yet with consistent practice and a healthy dose of determination, you begin to see improvements, small at first, but the more you learn and practice, the faster those improvements come.

The is persistence, not perfection! 🌱

Apply this same philosophy to your business. Every failed attempt is another stepping stone towards your eventual mastery.

Take on new challenges that push you out of your comfort zone. Each time you do, you'll gain more confidence in your abilities.

Talent is overrated.

Everyone has some level of innate talent.

The real question is, "What will you do with your talent?"

Will you hone it into the mighty skill that allows you to conquer the apparent obstacle in front of you?

Focus on learning and improvement rather than your native ability. Mastery comes through repetition and immersion. It’s easy to forget that when you watch someone else succeed “easily” when it feels so difficult for you.

What you don’t take into account when you watch that “easy success” are the countless hours they practiced in private so they could succeed when it mattered most.

Michael Jordan didn't become a basketball legend overnight; he worked tirelessly to refine his game on the practice court so that when the lights went up, he was ready for the moment. 🚀

Whether you're learning a new language, improving your public speaking, or mastering your craft, remember that your daily effort, your daily diligence and practice that make the difference. 📚🔧

Stay curious, keep learning, never stop growing and embrace a growth mindset to unlock your full potential! 🌿💫
